Google Goes Social (Again) With Google+

By  |  Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 11:10 am

Google has announced its most ambitious Facebook killer clone rival alternative to date.  It’s called Google+–which is kind of confusing since it’s not the same thing as Google’s +1–and unlike the unfortunate Google Buzz, it’s not just one thing. It’s a bunch of services–both desktop-based and for phones–and it sounds interesting, at least. I can’t get in yet, so I’m reading up on it via Danny Sullivan’s coverage. If you’re in, let us know what you think.

Did anyone realize you can only share pictures and videos on Google+? You can't actually post a thought or a link of a page that you like. And also, one person can't be on more than one circle, so if I have a friend that is also a co-worker, I have to choose if I am not sharing work related stuff or friend related stuff with him… Very disappointing.

I know the news just broke today, but it's already on rocky footing. I've read several articles and watched several videos explaining how it works, and I still have no idea how it actually works. If I can't figure it out, what hope do the unwashed, less tech-savvy masses have?

By positioning this as a "social layer" which ties together many of Google's services, instead of a more stand-alone thing, it's going to be really hard to pull users away from Facebook.

    Danny Sullivan:
"Friend Lists are nice in that if you pick one person, such as below where I selected Facebook communications chief Elliott Schrage, you get relevant suggestions that appear (other Facebook execs who’ve friended me on Facebook)"

Yah. That should make for a 'fair and balanced' review of Google+…..
