Electronic Boxing Game

Coleco, patent filed July 16th, 1981

Coleco’s boxing game is a good example of the odd combination of attempted realism and and mandatory suspension of belief melded together in these handhelds. On one hand the display is surrounded by tiny ropes, providing a certain degree of prizefighting atmosphere. On the other, the LED display (seen in the lower right) makes the players look like bulging jellybeans.
