Some computer peripherals go on forever, like printers and keyboards; others simply become obsolete. Such as the clamp-on notebook trackball, which dates from the era when people were first running Windows and other mouse-driven applications on portable computers. I know a geek who claims she still prefers pointing devices such as these to touchpads and ThinkPad-style nubs–if Microsoft made a USB one today, she might buy it.
