Steve Jobs, 1955-2011

By  |  Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 5:01 pm

[UPDATE: I thought I took this picture, which I found on my hard drive — but it’s actually by Tim Moynihan, my former PCWorld colleague. My apologies to Tim for claiming it was mine.]

Lots more thoughts to come, but for now, a photo I Tim Moynihan snapped at Macworld Expo in 2008. That’s Jobs with the original MacBook Air. And he’s wearing the smile I’ll think about when I think about the extraordinary impact he had on a company, an industry, and an era.

Visionaries like Steve Jobs reveal the true secret to the Universe in that nothing is impossible with time, perseverance, and positive visualization. Such a passion for furthering human communication inspires. His legacy will survive generations with names like Edison, Tesla as the greatest inventors and visionaries of all time. As an artist, I draw from these inspirations and advancements in my work and you may enjoy my recent portrait of Mr. Jobs, now In Memoriam at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/08/end-of

Best commencement speech ever (Stanford 2005 – Look it up on Youtube). Watch it every couple of months for inspiration. Remembering him as the person he was, not for his accomplishments (iPhone, Ipad, etc.). Great man, great inspiration. “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish”.

Cute. He did make things that were over-priced, however and seems to have steered the company in the direction of creating mountains of future junk — and the Power Mac hasn’t been really updated in significant terms in close to 10 years. I am also turned off by this deification… ugh.
