HP: We’re Still Committed to WebOS!

This is My Next’s Josh Topolsky says that HP still has plans for WebOS. It’s just not the least bit clear what they are.

DeWitt said that there would be staff reductions, but told the team that the company needs people “that are serious about winning” and again reiterated HP’s commitment to developing webOS as a platform. Both DeWitt and Bradley were clear that the current business model of webOS wasn’t working primarily due to lackluster hardware, arguing that HP needed to stop “trying to force non-competitive products into the market.”

Lets put this weeks two biggest tech news stories together:

HTC and Samsung are to start making webOS phones and tablets, to diversify their reliance on Android (and to a lesser extent Windows Phone).

Yeah, and Palm had plans to use BeOS too. Look where that went.

HP is a mess, they've had no clue what they were doing for years now. They had no strategy with WebOS, it was just another "me too" moment to waste a couple billion dollars on. Then somehow magically have their own phone, tablet and ecosystem.

HP needs to stop thinking about "OS" anything and just go crawling back to Microsoft, because the truth is they (Compaq) did best when they were simply trying to be a quality hardware vendor adopting Microsoft software into their consumer products.
